Reports from the meeting: Meeting vows to save cheese plant | Ffatri Gaws: Cyfarfod Argyfwng
February 26th, 2007:
The fragile mid-Ceredigion economy faced another serious blow today as
Lactalis McLelland announced that they would close within a month. This
news comes less than a year after Dairygold announced that they were
making 115 workers redundant at their site in Felin-fach. The closure
of the Aeron Valley Cheese factory, located a hundred yards from Dairygold
House, will lead to the loss of 44 jobs. Story in Welsh from the BBC
Another warning for Dairygold!
February 19th, 2007:
Carwyn Jones today announced his intention to take legal action against
Dairygold to secure the return of £663,528 of public funding. I a
statement on the Welsh Assembly website he said: "We have had
long-running discussions with Dairygold about recovering the grant
funding, but, unfortunately, on the basis of the position adopted by
Dairygold, it seems that legal action is the only option that is left
to us." read more

What we aim to achieve
We will make it impossible for Dairygold to mothball the site and sit
on it as an asset. If this means launching a boycott on Dairygold
goods, then that is what will be done. If it means taking the fight to
them, and having to go to Ireland to picket and protest, then that is
what will be done. Our fight will continue until the Dyffryn Aeron
Cheese Packing Plant site, that was funded by taxpayers’ money from our
pockets, is being used for employment purposes again. |
