Action leads to change Print E-mail

A protest following the Drwg yn y Caws show on Thursday, September 21 2006 has led to an announcement on Monday September 25 from the Welsh Assembly Government. The Rural Affairs Minister Carwyn Jones said he was considering prosecuting Dairygold to ensure repayment of the public money received by them to buy new machinery.

This decision by the Welsh Assembly Government was an immediate response to the direct action taken by the Drwg yn y Caws audience. Hundreds of Drwg yn Caws programmes were sent to, and part of this programme consisted of an invoice for the cost to the local community and the grants owed by Dairygold. This protest also attracted the attention of the national press with items on Radio Cymru, S4C news , BBC news, BBC Wales radio news programmes.

The campaign by the people of Dyffryn Aeron will continue. The announcement by Carwyn Jones demontsrates the value of positive action, and it dispels the cliché that  “we are powerless to act”. People are powerless if they choose to be so, and the people of Dyffryn Aeron have shown that they will not accept half hearted answers and false promises. The story is just beginning!
