Welcome Back Gary!

The club is delighted to see the return of Gary Wadey as the 1st Team Assistant Coach. Gary has agreed to come back to work alongside the 1st Team Coach Dave Dalton over the next few months as they embark on their return to the 1st Division of the Ceredigion League. Dave and Gary have worked together over the past seasons at Under 17, Youth, Reserve and 1st Team level before Gary took on a new job 2 years ago. Gary has since started his own business and recently moved to Llandysul but agreed almost straight away to come back and help out with the 1st Team. His knowledge and experience will once again be a valuable asset to the team over the coming season.

New Signings!

With the new season now underway the 1st Team are pleased to announce the signings of three new players who will be an invaluable addition to the squad for the coming season. A very warm welcome is extended to David Clark (formally Dewi Stars & Bow Street), Alex James (Llanboidy) and Rhydian Lake (Aberaeron). Manager Dave Dalton is delighted they have all agreed to come to the club this year especially as they all have experience of 1st Division football over the past season or two. Dave says "They are all exciting and talented young players who like to play football the way it should be. We have been working hard to improve and nurture the young squad of players that are now coming through into the 1st Team and to have players of this calibre joining us can only be good for the club. I am grateful to them all for committing themselves to the club over the next 12 months and hope they enjoy their time with us"

As well as these signings there are 2 or 3 other players which are currently being followed closely by the 1st Team Coaches. Dave says "There will be four or five youngsters from the 1st team squad leaving for University at the end of September so it is important we keep our options open. We are always looking to maintain a good balance and quality in the squad while at the same time we want ensure we keep the fantastic team spirit that these group of players have developed over the past season or two.

There are also a number of promising players coming through from the 2nd Team thanks to the excellent work being put in by the Reserve Team Manager David Miles. Dave concludes "With the number of exciting young players now on the books and the way they are developing, the next few seasons could be the most enjoyable the club has for many years".

 RECENT  MATCH SUMMARIES

4/9/10 Felinfach 2 v Aberporth 2

Both teams had to be content with a share of the points in this close encounter with Aberporth coming from 2 goals down at half time to deservedly take a point home. Indeed it was they who had the best of the game for the first hour with Felinfach never really finding any control of the game until the final 30 minutes or so.

Felinfach went ahead after a shaky 10 minutes thanks to an overhit pass back to their own keeper by an Aberporth defender. They then doubled their lead when captain Eilir Evans curled a lovely 20 yard effort to the right of the Aberporth keeper but Aberporth would have rightly felt aggrieved to have found themselves two down at the break.

Clearly determined to put things right, Aberporth came out all guns blazing for the first 15 minutes of the second half and got two quick goals to deservedly even matters at 2-2. Felinfach then rang the changes with two quick substitutions and finally managed to get more control of the game. However neither side were able to create any more clear cut chances and the game ended with honours even.

So a point gained or 2 points dropped? With players still returning from injury or away on holiday Felinfach manager Dave Dalton and assistant Gary Wadey admitted that this was probably the most disapointing performance of the season so far. However to pick up a point while playing poorly against a physically stronger and more experienced side is a sign of resiliance that will surely be required many more times this year if they are to achieve their No 1 aim of avoiding an immediate return to the 2nd Division.

So in the whole scheme of things definately a point gained but with plenty to work on in training on Wednesday before the long trip to Llanboidy next Saturday which will undoubtedly be another tough encounter.

Felinfach Man of the Match - Dan White

"Had a very busy game but never let the big strong Aberporth centre forwards settle all afternoon. A battling performance"

1/9/10 Ffostrasol 0 v Felinfach 4

Felinfach picked up their first points back in the First Division with a comfortable 4-0 victory in Ffostrasol. In a fixture that Felinfach manager Dave Dalton described as "vital" in their quest to pick up some early league points and get their season underway, this victory maybe came along a little easier than he might have imagined?

Ffostrasols task wasn't made any easier due to a number of absentees from their 1st team but Felinfach were also without a number of regulars from their squad due to injuries and holidays. That gave a number of others the opportunity to step up and show the strength in depth the side is now beginning to have at its disposal.

The game itself however was by no means a classic with Felinfach rarely finding top gear but they still had far too much firepower and posession to constantly trouble the home side. Gareth Evans got the first of the game stabbing home form close range just before half time followed by a Jamie Owen tap in ten minutes into the second half after fine work and a cross from the lively Rhodri Bevan who then went on to get the third after an hour. Keith Evans completed the rout with a lovely 20 yard strike low into the bottom right hand side of the goal and but for some missed clearcut opportunitities from Felinfach and some resiliant defending from Ffostrasol the final score would have been a lot higher.

A word too for the new Felinfach back line marshalled by keeper Richard Brennan who will have done their confidence no harm at all in getting a clean sheet so soon after their return to the 1st Division.

Felinfach Man of the Match - Rhodri Bevan

"A constant threat down both flanks to which Ffostrasol simply had no answer!"

25/8/10 Felinfach 0 v New Quay 4

Felinfach couldnt have faced a much stiffer test on their return to the 1st Division against the runners up of the league over the last 2 seasons.

To be fair however they made New Quay work hard for their victory with the visitors only making the game safe in the final 15 minutes against a tiring Felinfach side.

On a wet and greasy surface both teams played the game at a high tempo throughout with Felinfach guilty of missing a number of chances in the opening 30 minutes. New Quay then got into their customary pass and move pattern and nudged ahead 1-0 at half time when a long ball over the Felinfach defence just evaded centre half Dyfan Evans and goalkeeper Richard Brennan.

New Quay then made it 2-0 ten minutes into the 2nd half before Felinfach had the share of play for the next 25 minutes without making their possesion count. They then tired quickly for New Quay to wrap the game up with two late goals, the final one coming with the last kick of the game.

Overall a deserved victory for New Quay who undoubtedly will once again be amongst the front runners for the league title this season. Felinfach showed plenty of endeavour and promise throughout the game to indicate that they intend to push teams all the way this year in their attempts to consolidate their place back in the 1st Division.

Felinfach Man of the Match - Gareth Evans

"Tireless running throughout the game both in attack and defence"
